Collection history
Laurel Heights was a Connecticut tuberculosis sanatorium in Shelton. The Connecticut State Library holds a patient-information booklet that describes the institution and its approach to treatment. A booklet written by an institution reveals its official presentation; it does not speak for every patient. [CT067-S01][CT067-S02]
A Connecticut College finding aid also identifies Laurel Heights material dated 1957–1960. Those dates describe the archival file, not the institution’s full operating period. This edition links the records while leaving the exact closure chronology and a reusable photographic record open for further research. [CT067-S01][CT067-S02]
The patient-information booklet at the Connecticut State Library gives Laurel Heights a surviving institutional voice. Such a booklet was designed to explain the institution and its approach to care to a particular audience. It can establish what officials wanted readers to know, while leaving open whether every patient's experience matched that presentation. [CT067-S01][CT067-S02]
The separate archival material dated 1957–1960 provides a time-bounded lead. A file's date range is not the same as the hospital's opening and closing dates. Following that distinction keeps the history accurate while further records are sought. Photographs, annual reports and state administrative files may eventually connect the booklet to buildings, staffing and changes in service. Until then, the story should make its documentary foundation and its missing photographic and chronological evidence equally visible. [CT067-S01][CT067-S02]
