Evidence & access: Ask for the original entry and any surviving return, including date, cause, residence, age, informant and book/page reference. The New Haven 1897–2001 index in the Saint Bernard collection cannot cover this 1872 death. Do not treat later claims of apoplexy as a verified diagnosis.
