West Cemetery, 250 Hanover Street, Meriden. Prepared September 28, 2026.

To Meriden Public Library, Local History:
We are helping Parks and Recreation reconstruct West Cemetery's lost records. Please search for the original and any copies of the named-lot plan reproduced at https://greenerpasture.com/Content/ancestorimages/theunert_5415_grave_plot.jpg and described at https://greenerpasture.com/Places/ShowNews/2439. The page credits Janis L. Franco, Local History Librarian. The highlighted Blessing label appears numbered 713; the family names include Henrietta Blessing, Thienert and Theunert, died June 18, 1903. Please include prior reference correspondence, cemetery files, map cabinets, donations, electronic copies and successor-custodian information. We need the whole sheet, reverse, legend, date and associated numbered-lot register. Please also provide the Hale survey, volume 26, pages 421–483, cemetery 211-10, including section headings and any plans. Please advise if any of these records were transferred elsewhere and give a copying estimate before incurring charges.

To Connecticut State Library State Archives:
Please identify surviving records and exhibits for City of Meriden v. West Meriden Cemetery Association, 83 Conn. 204, decided June 14, 1910, including the Supreme Court record on appeal and originating Meriden City Court file. The published opinion describes 588 lots and expressly cites exhibits attached to the trial finding showing certificates of proprietorship transferable on the association's books. We seek the finding, exhibits, certificates, schedules, maps and references to the books' custody. Please supply inventory/call numbers and a copying estimate before charges.

To Meriden Parks and Recreation / City Clerk records custodians:
Please search holdings and custody-transfer records for West Cemetery / West Meriden Cemetery Association, 250 Hanover Street, parcel 0112-0053-0003-0000. Relevant records include lot plans, numbered-lot registers, certificate books and counterfoils, transfers, perpetual-care accounts, burial/removal/disinterment permits and returns, sexton reports, index cards, digital backups, correspondence and records of former association officials or caretakers. Please distinguish unavailable records from records transferred elsewhere or destroyed under a retention schedule. The assessment sales row contains book 9999/page 999 and an inconsistent grantee; please identify any actual recorded deed or other instrument rather than treating that row as title evidence. Please provide a copying estimate before charges.

To Connecticut Office of Policy and Management and Meriden grant-record custodian:
Please provide the West Cemetery Neglected Cemeteries Account grant file, contract 200PM4604AJ, effective February 17, 2021, award $3,332. We seek the application and attachments, maps, ownership/care representations, photographs, work plans, invoices, final reports and correspondence, including any records identifying a custodian of cemetery records. Please advise of related earlier/later files and give a copying estimate before charges.
